2 Terrorists Killed, 5 Security Personnel Injured in Kathua Encounter

Two terrorists were killed and five security personnel injured in a fierce gunfight in Kathua district’s Ghati Juthana area. Security forces, including the Special Operations Group (SOG), Army, BSF, and CRPF, launched the operation to counter infiltration attempts.

The encounter involved a group of five terrorists. It remains unclear whether they were the same group that escaped an earlier cordon in the Sanyal forest. The gunfight led to heavy gunfire and explosions, intensifying security concerns.

Security Forces in Action

Special Police Officer Bharat Chalotra suffered facial injuries and was transferred to Government Medical College Hospital, Jammu. Three security personnel, including an SDPO, were briefly trapped near the site due to dense foliage.

Reinforcements were sent after intelligence reports indicated the terrorists’ movement. The operation followed a failed interception attempt in Hiranagar, where terrorists managed to escape.

Surveillance and Recoveries

Security teams deployed UAVs, drones, helicopters, and sniffer dogs for tracking. Evidence recovered near Hiranagar included M4 carbine magazines, grenades, a bulletproof jacket, food supplies, and IED-making materials. Officials suspect infiltration via a ravine or a newly dug tunnel from across the border.

Top Officials Monitoring the Situation

Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat and IG Bhim Sen Tuti have been overseeing the operation. Security remains high as forces continue combing the area.
