India’s Creative Power on Global Stage as Modi Inaugurates WAVES 2025 in Mumbai

Mumbai– In a powerful appeal to India’s creative community, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated the WAVES 2025 Summit in Mumbai — the country’s first global convergence of the audio-visual and entertainment sectors. Speaking to a packed venue that included prominent filmmakers, producers, and digital content creators, the Prime Minister urged the industry to uphold values of humanism and social harmony in storytelling.

PM Modi underscored the transformative role of India’s creative economy, highlighting its potential to drive not just cultural influence but economic growth. “India’s stories, rooted in values and diversity, can shape global narratives and boost our economy simultaneously,” he said, adding that today’s youth must be shielded from content that promotes division or violence.

The WAVES 2025 Summit in Mumbai — short for World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit — has been described by the Prime Minister’s Office as a groundbreaking initiative. The three-day event features an expansive schedule: 42 plenary sessions, 39 breakout dialogues, and 32 specialized masterclasses. Topics include broadcasting, AVGC-XR (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality), films, infotainment, and digital media.

In a forward-looking announcement, Modi revealed that a dedicated WAVES Awards ceremony will soon be instituted to celebrate excellence in creative innovation. The government, he said, remains committed to ensuring that India’s content creators find recognition on both national and international platforms.
