As the sun sets on Makar Sankranti, the First Amrit Snan of Mahakumbh 2025 continues to mesmerize millions at the sacred Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj. This grand event, blending devotion and tradition, showcases India’s rich cultural heritage. The atmosphere reverberates with chants of “Har Har Mahadev” and “Jai Shri Ram,” while the icy waters of the Sangam welcome pilgrims braving the chill to cleanse their souls.

A Grand Beginning to the Divine Bathing Series
The First Amrit Snan of Mahakumbh 2025 officially began at dawn with the revered saints of the Mahanirvani Akhara leading the ritual. Clad in saffron robes and adorned with ash, the Naga Sadhus took the holy dip at 6:15 AM, marking the event’s spiritual significance. Following them, the saints of the Niranjani and Anand Akharas participated, and the bathing schedule stretched till noon with other prominent akharas like Juna, Awahan, and Panch Agni joining in.
Swami Gyan Puri, the revered Mahamandaleshwar of the Mahanirvani Akhara, described the event as an “extraordinary confluence of devotion and discipline.”

Faithful Flocks Amid Unparalleled Security
Devotees from across the country converged on the akhara route hours before dawn, eager to witness the procession of saints. Many sought to collect the sacred “charan raj” (dust from the feet of holy men) to take back to their villages. Security forces, including mounted police, PAC, and paramilitary units, ensured the event’s smooth flow amid the overwhelming crowd.
Despite the chill and the endless wait, the devout walked miles chanting “Har Har Gange,” carrying hopes, prayers, and faith in their hearts.

A Message of Culture and Faith
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath shared his congratulations to the devotees on social media, calling the First Amrit Snan of Mahakumbh 2025 a “living testament to Sanatan Dharma and India’s enduring faith.” He lauded the meticulous arrangements and shared pictures of the gathering that showcased the event’s grandeur.
