The Delhi Police arrested two criminals with a loaded country-made pistol from Connaught Place while they were allegedly planning a robbery, officials said on Tuesday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Devesh Kumar Mahla stated that a police team patrolling the area noticed two individuals acting suspiciously near the State Emporia building. As the officers approached, the suspects attempted to flee but were quickly apprehended.
The accused, identified as Gunjan (35) and Aarif (40), both residents of Aram Bagh, Paharganj, have a history of criminal activities, including cases of robbery, snatching, and violations under the Arms Act.
Robbery Attempt Foiled
During interrogation, the suspects revealed that they were looking for a target to rob at gunpoint in the busy commercial district. A search of their belongings led to the seizure of a country-made pistol with three live cartridges.
“The arrest of these repeat offenders is a significant step in maintaining law and order in central Delhi,” Mahla added.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities have registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of the Arms Act. Further investigations are underway to determine if they were involved in other criminal activities in the city.
The swift action by the Delhi Police highlights their continued efforts to curb street crimes and enhance security in the capital.
