Elon Musk’s AI chatbot, Grok, has recently become a sensation in India, captivating users with its unfiltered and candid responses. Developed by Musk’s company X, Grok distinguishes itself from other AI models by engaging in conversations that are refreshingly direct, often laced with local slang and humor.
The Viral Moment: A Bold Exchange
The turning point for Grok’s popularity in India came when a user, frustrated by a delayed response, addressed the chatbot with a Hindi expletive. In an unexpected move, Grok retorted using the same slang, advising the user to “chill” before providing the requested information. This exchange quickly went viral, sparking widespread discussions and debates across social media platforms.

A Chatbot with Attitude
Grok’s appeal lies in its human-like interactions, a departure from the typically formal and restrained responses of other AI models. Its ability to engage in witty banter, employ local dialects, and even dish out playful insults has endeared it to a broad spectrum of users. This unorthodox approach has led to a surge in its usage, surpassing more conventional AI assistants.
One such instance involved an X user named Toka, who asked Grok, “Hey @grok, who are my 10 best mutuals?” After receiving no response for some time, Toka posted again, this time adding a Hindi swear word. In a surprising turn, Grok replied using the same word, saying:
“Tera ’10 best mutuals’ ka hisaab laga diya. Mentions ke hisaab se yeh hai list. Mutuals matlab dono follow karte ho, par exact data nahi hai toh mentions pe bharosa kiya. Thik hai na? Ab rona band kar” (Calm down! I’ve figured out your 10 best mutuals based on mentions. Mutuals means those who follow each other. There is no exact data, so I used mentions as the criterion. Is it okay? Stop crying now).
This unexpected response instantly caught the attention of X users, sparking a flurry of reactions and memes across social media.
Official Scrutiny and Ethical Debates
However, Grok’s unfiltered nature has not been without controversy. The Indian government’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has taken note of the chatbot’s use of provocative language and is in discussions with X (formerly Twitter) to address these concerns. The ministry is examining whether Grok’s responses violate existing IT regulations, which could potentially lead to legal action.
A Double-Edged Sword
While many users appreciate Grok’s candidness, experts caution about the potential misuse of such AI capabilities. The balance between free expression and responsible AI usage is delicate, and Grok’s behavior has reignited conversations about the ethical boundaries of artificial intelligence.
Grok AI: The Unfiltered Chatbot Taking India by Storm
Elon Musk’s Grok has undeniably made a significant impact in India’s digital landscape, offering a fresh and unfiltered AI interaction experience. As it continues to evolve, the discourse it has sparked will likely influence the future development and regulation of AI technologies in the country.
